Joys of Telecommuting

I know that I've recently moaned and complained about having worked 60 + hour weeks lately, but I forgot to take a step back and realize the huge benefit that I have. Sure, I've been logging in at home from 9 PM until midnight pretty much every single weeknight, had to work several overnight shifts and then go in to work the next day, and had to work pretty much every weekend for the past month and a half, including this long weekend.

But a majority of this extra work, I've been able to do while telecommuting.

And that has made ALL the difference.

Sure, the hours are long, and seemingly never ending. But at least, though I'm working this weekend, I'm here at home with my wife and child. At least I have the pleasure of eating meals with them, playing, and laughing and running the occasional errand (I was able to do a conference call yesterday, for example, while still taking Alexander, and two of his friends, on his weekly daddy/son library visit).

Since I work in Information Technology, most of my work involes logging onto a system and keying in stuff. I'm very lucky to have the option, then, of telecommuting. And for that, I'm extremely grateful.

Whoops, gotta go - got to be on a conference call at 5:00 PM don't you know . . .

i'm glad at least if you have beastly hours that you can work in such a way not to miss important things like family meals and library time with alexander. that's great

I'm glad you're able to stay home with Alexander. Not too many parents get this option. This is exactly what I'm working towards.

Actually, guys, maybe I wasn't clear enough in my post. I've been fortunate enough to be able to do most of my OVERTIME from home, but I'm still required to be in the office for about 45 hours a week.

I'd love to either be a stay at home Dad or be able to work from home full time and spend more time with my son.

A man can dream, though, can't he?

Sounds like what you need is less hours for more money! When you find it, hire me!

I thought I had the solution when starting my own home-based business, but I have since discovered that I am the most neurotic, unfair, slave-driving, demanding boss I have ever had. (ok, there may have been ONE worse;)
